This Java Sparrow comes in for a smooth landing at Aloha Acres

These are my favorite bird buddies from the last week.

When I first saw this Eurasian magpie I thought it looked a lot like the Grackles that visited my yard at home. But they are two unrelated species.
Magpies belong to the family Corvidae, which includes crows, ravens, and jays, while grackles belong to the family Icteridae, which includes blackbirds, orioles, and meadowlarks 123.

This Yellow-billed Cardinal is one of the prettiest birds at the Aloha Acres feeder.

Touch and go practice
This busy feeder has no more room to land

Best action shots from the past week
This is the best picture of a Saffron Finch I’ve gotten from Aloha Acres. When you see the body, it looks a lot like the American Goldfinch I see in my backyard, but the yellow is more orange.

This Amethyst Sunbird comes to us from South Africa.
🤗 An amazing California Quail from a Bird Buddy in New Zealand.

The Bird Buddy at Aloha Acres gets crowded. I believe these birds are a Java Sparrow and Saffron Finches.

Cardinals are not native to Hawaii, but three species have been introduced to the islands. Northern Cardinals were first introduced to Hawaii in 1929.

Bit of a squabble between some of the birds at Aloha Acres.
Beautiful shots of a Cardinal landing on my Bird Buddy.

Bird Buddy just launched some very exciting new features! Among them is the ability to get postcards from exotic places and learn about new birds.
I got my first Bird Buddy postcard from Hawaii today! It features a Java Sparrow.

This Cardinal is rockin’ that mohawk today!
